if you’re going to try, go all the
way. this could mean losing girlfriends,
wives, relatives, jobs and
maybe your mind.
you will be alone with the
gods
and the nights will flame with
fire.

The #Fediverse can focus on praising what is good while also criticising what is bad. That's what makes us special, in my opinion. Other "social" networks use algorithms to hide the praise because only negativity brings traffic and ad click money. We are different. We can promote the good without risking being shadow-banned. Use that power. At least once a day. Deal? It takes some time to leave that pavlovian reflex of negativity behind. But at least try and you will enjoy the results :)

How? You don't have to hunt for good news. When you see someone posting something positive, you can boost. Or add a reply a la "I like!", "Good!", "Thank you for that!". Really. Just that short comment shows appreciation and encouragement. And costs you next to nothing. Just do it ;)

Anti-patterns: Trying to slide in their DMs (I personally make an exception for DMs informing me of a typo or mistake in my post). Replying with unrelated questions trying to move the topic to your personal preferences. Quote posting with some snarky comment that mainly serves to make YOU feel superior or more knowledgeable. You will find out that such behaviour isn't appreciated here as much as it was on Twitter or Facebook. Because — algorithms.

@jwildeboer Agreed. The day I deleted my Deadbird account (just after the Elonoscopy) was one of the more memorable days in my life. I like the discourse here on Mastodon. It can be "edgy" sometimes and even a bit robust, but I have never experienced even a vague shadow of the nasty toxicity that is now all-pervasive in Elon's fascism laboratory. There isn't a day that goes by on Mastodon that I don't smile or learn something new.
@jwildeboer that‘s a great idea.
I love the fediverse, it ferls lime the cooperative forums of the late 90ies and earl 00s
As someone who is primarily reading here, I‘m going to comment more on the posts
@jwildeboer wait, there are OTHER social media sites? well whatever for?
I live here. Best fam Ive had since march 2020.
@jwildeboer All very good on the surface. The #Fediverse can also focus on what is bad while whining about imaginary grievances or tribal/cult belief structures. And thus it attracts "moderators" and "moderation" as effective and opinionated as any commercial service (defederating sites, blocking users, ...). It seems more full of real people being themselves. SEEMS.
@nadiyar Really? I'm using it (Anki) for many years and I don't remember having any crash. Do you use the official bundled provided by their website?
@nadiyar Actually my review was about the Anki desktop app specifically. I edited it.
@danialbehzadi @nadiyar
The issue is with Flatpak build probably as reported here:
https://github.com/flathub/net.ankiweb.Anki/issues/246
But I don't know how this can be solved.
Oh really? "they/them" pronouns are woke? Did you know "they/them" comes from Old Norse, whereas "he/she" come from old English? They/them are the pronouns of Vikings.
Would you call Sweyn Forkbeard "woke"? And Eric Bloodaxe? Woke too? And I suppose even Ivar the Boneless was woke. Get real.
I'm using the new timeline already and it is so much better than the old one in all regards 🥺
@ConnyDuck Sometimes, eating your own dog food is even tasty. Congrats.
700 lines of poorly written python code, to wrap the simplest interaction of 3 cli tools. One can easily rewrite it in less than 20 lines of bash.
I guess to #python developers, every problem just look like a nail. 🤷
And I don't even regret it xD
@nadiyar you might not, but the poor developer who has to maintain that code after you will curse you 😂
@danialbehzadi
@nadiyar
@arashe22Rm @danialbehzadi
@alot_toximo @nadiyar @arashe22Rm
@danialbehzadi
@nadiyar @arashe22Rm
People disappoint me sometimes :/
hello fellow artists. google has fallen. pinterest/duckduckgo AI filters don't work. do not despair; here is a list i made of places to find reference images without having to sift through piles of worthless garbage: http://doodlemancy.dreamwidth.org/20757.html

I find it a bit strange that the day after I set up a #CloudflareTunnel with #OTP, the whole #Cloudflare infrastructure goes down.
On the good side, it impacted #Twitter as well 😋

Anyone else feel like today’s world is too hung up on geniuses and luminaries? What about everyday people who are doing their best??
@nadiyar
The icon gets chunkier with every release.
Also what do you use VS for?
@nadiyar Could be I guess, but it's just a variation of a design that they've been using for a long while.
Most of my paid work is .Net development on Windows, so I use it for that.
@nadiyar I do enjoy the C#. I used it on Linux for the first time last week, hoping to get more of that going on. Unfortunately I also have to maintain a bunch of VB.Net and VB6 😬
