    We had another box of goodies arrive for the cats this week from the same company we bought the catnip mice from last week. Laurie was just as enthusiastic about the box as before, and just as determined to not give it up. He almost managed to get his head inside this box, but not quite. But he did manage to get high on the scents that had permeated the box.

    A black cat has found a very small box and is trying to fit his head inside. It won't work, but he is determined to keep trying as the box smells of catnip - it arrived with toys inside, which he will not get until Christmas, but he clearly loves the smell.

    A black cat with amber eyes has been getting high on the catnip and silvervine scent in a little box that he can't manage to squeeze even his head inside. He is very possessive about the box , determined not to give it up, and equally determined not to give up trying to fit into the box.... It's his box and he's not letting anyone take it from him. As he loves the box so much, we can be pretty sure that he is going to enjoy the catnip and silvervine toys and chewsticks that came in it.

            story of the bed in the alt

            a floofy b&w cat sits in a large cat bed raised up on a plastic crate. the crate is on a tile floor in front of a glass door with prayer flag hanging above it, and beyond it are green grass, a blue sky, an old garage/barn with a terracotta roof and a silver-beige car parked in it. the story of the bed (long, brief mention of previous cat's passing): we've been trying to get him to use the bed in the image for more than three years. when he was tiny, we had my angel boppit and she had her bed. he had a tiny one when he was very small, but as he got bigger, we got him this big, super comfy one. which he never used. nor did she. nor has pia, apart from like twice. he took over the boppit's bed after she'd gone, but as she was so small and he's pretty big, he just kind of sprawled everywhere ... everything needed washing during the Great Sofa Upheaval of this past week, plus the boppit's bed lived on the arm of the now-replaced sofa, so it all changed. but we gave him the big bed as a look-out post by the door during the chaos in case it might encourage him? later, we washed his blanket and put that in the big bed and put it near where the arm of the sofa up on that crate (new sofa smaller, has a different arm), and he's been sleeping in it! and sprawling, but in a somewhat more comfortable-looking, not jaunty from the edges of the bed sort of way. hooray!

              It's a rainy day today so the cats are being extra restless. A play session on my bed was going well until disaster (Petunia) struck. :blobcatcry:

                                        My wife and I have been fostering kittens for quite a while. Our first foster was back in 2009. Even though we have fallen in love with every kitten, we have never kept any of our fosters. Well, that streak ends with this litter. These two fluffballs will be staying with us permanently. The orange tabby boy will henceforth be known as Sugar and the Calico girl will now be Spice.

                                          7 years ago we moved to San Francisco. That first couple of months will always be marked by confusion about Fahrenheit, miles, gallons etc; and by the adoption of our senior cat. At the shelter her name was Princess Mia. We thought it was too docile for her strong personality and named her Mila instead.

                                          Mila is turning 19. I spend a lot of my time admiring her face, as it should be.

                                              59 years today since "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" was released back in 1966. On the surface, it might appear like a whimsical cartoon about a young kid’s belief in the Halloween version of a Santa-like entity. However, the animated short isn’t a mockery of Linus but more of a sincere depiction of his innocence. At its core, it's a deeper exploration of disappointment, the several different forms that faith can take, perseverance, small acts of kindness, and holding on to hope despite failure.

                                              The scenes where Linus promises to put in a good word for his friends with the Great Pumpkin, even after they mock him, when Lucy thinks to ask for extra candy for him because he missed trick-or-treating, and later goes to find him, brings him home and tucks him into bed, highlight Schulz’s characteristic avoidance of cynicism in favour of a more tender approach, even when tackling darker, melancholic themes.

                                              According to his longtime collaborator Lee Mendelson, Charles Schulz always felt badly about the reality that many children from disadvantaged families don’t always get what they wish for during the holidays. Something that partly shaped Linus’s unshakeable belief in the Great Pumpkin, his enduring hope, and the underlying message: “You keep going, and you don’t give up.” (sfgate.com/tv/article/50-years)
