I don't know whose idea it was to create a do-not-disturb / silent mode for mobile phones.

I know this probably goes as old as the phones themselves, so when they first started commercializing it they thought, hmm, we created a device that rings, what if we add a feature, that prevents it from ringing? (And surprisingly it became useful)
